For many people, Science Fiction (or SF) is simply the literary genre that deals with the future possibilities posed by scientific understanding — an entertaining distraction from the ho-hum themes and settings of contemporary fiction. I’m going to argue it’s much more serious than that, of course.

I love the ideas and possibilities posed by the genre and how they relate to our modern world — a society poised on a knife edge, building incredible systems and devices that improve our lives, even as these same inventions threaten to undermine everything that brought us to this point.
